A place for good coffee in Paris

A while back I wrote about how to order coffee and have recently found a coffee lover’s paradise where you can fully exercise these newfound skills.

La Caféothèque near Hotel de Ville (which means City Hall) is an amazing place where you can taste, buy, and learn about some of the best coffees in the world. The baristas at the shop speak about coffee in a way that the French usually reserve for explaining wine, art, or sex. They can tell you the origins, the nuances of the flavor and with what it can be pared with from cookies, cakes, fruits, all the way up to what coffee is best after have a certain kind of meat they even give CLASSES and social meetings for coffee enthusiasts. The menu is large with poetic descriptions of the coffee that include my favorite that describes a certain coffee as “peppery chocolate”. ça donne envie non?

This coffee shop has also been a great place where I have met a few other coffee freaks like myself and have exchanged some very interesting conversation and even one or two books (book swaps are SO important to me in Paris)

So if you love that little buzz you get right behind the eyes after taking a quick, scorching hot, rough, gritty, corse, sip of that ol’ black magic; this is a good place for you to stop through.

About Emilie

I'm a small girl with big ambitions and very little common sense it seems. I decided after I graduated from college that I would move from my little city of Lafayette Louisiana to the raging monster city that is Paris. In 4 months of planning I have now uprooted everything I had in an amazing town to live in a truly wild place where I have no idea WHAT I am going to do. But isn't that the fun of it all. So here is cheers to getting lost, breaking hearts, starving, and many wonderful adventures that come along with finding yourself.
