Canal Saint Martin

Spring is in full swing in Paris. The dullness of winter is gone and days of laying in parks or hours of walking in all the diverse quartiers of Paris are a go!

One of my favorite things in this city is sitting on the waterside and wasting the day away with friends, fresh salads, quiches, and maybe a bottle of French wine or two.

The Seine is the obvious choice as it is iconic and also runs through the majority of the southern part of the city but if you are looking for a really good time go to the Canal St Martin.

The Canal on a warm summer Saturday night is THE place to be. All day long the longs of the Canal become home to picnics, jam sessions, and everyday happenings. The ” youth” of Paris flock here to some of the most quaint cafés in the city and then end the night at the waterside with thousands of others. Each night that I have passed at the waters edge I have made new friends and had some of the greatest times of my life.

So when you are looking for something to do for nightlife in Paris forget the discotheque and the flashy out fits : grab your jeans and favorite t-shirt and go down to the canal for some of the best nights of your life. You could even make a few friends along the way.

About Emilie

I'm a small girl with big ambitions and very little common sense it seems. I decided after I graduated from college that I would move from my little city of Lafayette Louisiana to the raging monster city that is Paris. In 4 months of planning I have now uprooted everything I had in an amazing town to live in a truly wild place where I have no idea WHAT I am going to do. But isn't that the fun of it all. So here is cheers to getting lost, breaking hearts, starving, and many wonderful adventures that come along with finding yourself.

And is it a place for travellers?

    • Emilie says:

Yes anyone can enjoy the cannal. (and should) Infact I would strongly suggest to any traveler if you were looking to stay in a nice area that near tha Canal St. Martin is a nice alternative to the more touristy areas and is about a 30 minute (and scenic) walk from the Latin Quarter.
